Cut-Out Dresses

Clip This

Further proof that the 80’s are back?  Cut out dresses!  Cut out dresses can be subtle and classy or dramatic and daring.  Dresses have been showing up on runways and red carpets with pieces missing from the front, sides, and back.  Celebrities such as Halle Berry, supermodel Allessandra Ambrosio, Kim Kardashian, Fergie, and Kate Hudson have all mastered the look this year.

If you have the confidence and the body, you can go for the side cut outs.  These will accentuate your waist and show everything, so be prepared.  Body not in perfect shape or maybe you’re just not comfortable baring that much midriff, opt for a subtler cut out in the front or back on the chest, shoulders, or upper back.  If you’re really daring, you can go for full frontal cutouts like Anna Faris did and make a serious fashion statement.

This cutout looks ads a geometrical shape to otherwise simple designs and adds a sense of curiosity to your look.  You will be teasing everyone and leave them wondering what else is hiding under those clothes!  You definitely want to keep your accessories simple with this look.  Your bare skin is the main accessory and too much more will just be overload.  Keep it classy by choosing neutral or primary colors.  No neon unless you really want to look like an 80’s rocker chick that never let go of the dream.  Remember, this look can be very dramatic depending on where your cut outs are, so be conscience of keeping the cut outs your main focus, and covering everything else.

Just Cavalli has a sexy back cut out dress for $395 at Saks.  Preen Line has a hot cut out one shoulder dress exclusively on net-a-porter.com for $440.  Extra cash to spend?  Check out the Herve Leger Vivien cutout bandage dress for $880 or the Preen Lame Zebra dress as seen on Gwyneth Paltrow for $1,995.  Looking for something under $100?  Check out UrbanOutfitters.com for a few options from Insight, Reformed, and Silence & Noise.
