What to Wear to The Oscar's

Share Clip This

Lucky you! The Oscar’s (aka, the Academy Awards) is one of the hardest tickets in the world to get. Also, of all the award shows, it is the most formal. The event started in 1928 and is the most prestigious of all awards. “The envelope please”…

Most of the celebrities will get dresses made/donated to them by a famous designer. Everyone else will get to shop! Dresses for this event are typically floor length and very formal. The only leg you’ll be seeing on women is if they have a slit up the side. If you live in New York, Los Angeles or any other major city, there is no lack of places to shop. Neiman Marcus and Saks are great if you’re not near an area like Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Our personal favorite is Lloyd Klein located on Beverly Drive.

For ladies, any long gown in a neutral color and pretty fabric should be acceptable. Color trends such as royal blue, yellow and purple cycle in and out – you can read up on what’s expected every year in magazines or online articles. Be sure to top your dress with good accessories, great hair and makeup. A pretty wrap or faux fur shrug can be toted along for later when the sun goes down. For shoes, we recommend strappy, open toed, heels. Stuart Weitzman makes great shoes (most comfortable) for every occasion and they are very reasonably priced.

Men, traditional formalwear rules apply, though don’t be afraid to experiment a little with tie styles with your tux. Be sure to put a little gel in your hair and have a clean shave, or trim your beard/moustache.
Have fun!

p.s. Be prepared to get your dress stepped on.
