What to Wear to the Golden Globes

The Golden Globes are the motion pictures and television programs awards. It is a once a year event organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Be prepared to hear every award winner thank them in their speech!
The Golden Globes is a formal event, though not as formal as The Oscars. It’s known to be the “fun party” event of all the awards shows – they even serve champagne at the end of the red carpet! It’s a sit down dinner, but guests will get a little rowdy as wine and champagne is served all night.

The event is held every year in January in Los Angeles. Generally, the temperature is warm with sunny skies during the day and cool, clear nights. But, since January can also be Los Angeles’ rainy season, showers are certainly possible.

We say, save the floor length gowns for The Oscars. Go on, show a little leg! Calf and knee length dresses can be perfectly stylish and acceptable for this gala. Ladies, you’ll want to look polished and glamorous, so be sure to have your hair and makeup polished and work in your favorite accessories. As a rule, a tiny clutch or evening bag is all you need to tote a few essentials. Be sure to bring along lip gloss, mints, and some powder for freshing up.  You'll be on your feet for a long time so be sure to coat your feet, before heading out, with Band- Aid Friction Block in order to prevent blisters.

If you live in Los Angeles, your possibilities for dresses are endless. You can’t go wrong with a trip to Sunset Plaza, Robertson, or Rodeo Drive, You’d be surprised what you can get for a very affordable price. Yes, even at these designer stores! However, you don’t have to go that route. Designers like BCBG and ABS always have dresses that are stylish, very affordable, and suitable for this fancy affair. 2012 is all about bright colors and FUN.  Afterall, the world is ending this year so live it up!  Don't shy from colors like yellow, baby blue, and peach. 

Men, traditional formalwear is what you’ll need. Have a designer suit? Wear it! Don’t forget good grooming – have hair coifed, a good clean shave, and exfoliate your skin with a great scrub. You’ll look better in pictures!  Dare to be different and wear navy blue instead of black.  Dare to be extra different, and cool, by pinning a fresh gardenia in your lapel, sans the greenery, a la Tom Ford.
