“Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey”
“Whiskey makes my baby feel a little frisky” – Luke Bryan
Ok, with songs like that, how can you not have a good time?! Country dancing is something everyone should experience once in their life. So, this is how it goes. Most country bars, if you get there early, will offer free lessons. This will teach you the basic steps to make it through the night. Once the lessons are over, get ready to turn into a dancing fool! Ladies, if you go without a guy, no worries, you WILL dance. Just stand on the edge of the floor, and guy after guy will swing by and ask if you would like to dance. You will say yes, they will lead you all over the dance floor and you will feel like you’ve been dancing for years. Once the song is over, they will drop you off where they picked you up, and you can wait for the next guy. It is a night of chivalry! That I promise you!
What to Wear:
Ladies: Comfortable shoes is the most important thing! Leave your 4” stilettos at home unless you have run a marathon in them and they didn’t hurt your feet one bit. Cowboy boots are ideal, but if you don’t own a pair, any pair of boots will do. Wear jeans, leggings, or shorts. I would not recommend a skirt unless you are prepared to show off your goods. You will be spun around so many times and once you get real good, guys will literally flip you around! Wear a top that keeps you cool, you will be HOT! A cotton button down, a pretty lace top, a t-shirt with a plaid bandana tied around your neck are all acceptable. Do your hair all pretty and bring a hair-tie, you’ll probably end up pulling it up by the end of the night.
Men: Jeans. Period. Boots are also practically required. No tennis shoes, it will be hard for you to move on the dance floor. A t-shirt or button down shirt is fine. You can wear a cowboy hat or a baseball cap, both are completely acceptable. A lot of guys also bring a ‘sweat rag’ that they hang out of their back pocket. It will come in handy! Either a washcloth of some sort or a do-rag will do. Dig down to those manners your momma taught you, and ask girls to dance! Not to hopefully sleep with them later, but simply because that is what a chivalrous man does.
Most importantly, wear a smile and bring your manners. Southern charm reigns in these parts!
