What to Wear When Getting your Driver's License Photo Taken

The dreaded DMV... my body aches even having to write this article. Do yourself a favor, schedule an appointment online and WELL in advance. Otherwise, the wait will not only kill your day, but perhaps it will even kill some brain cells.

If you are getting your driver's license photo taken, and actually care about how you look in the picture, think about it a little in advance.

Know what color makes you look your best.  We recommend that you stick to a solid color. You probably should not wear a tube top, strapless top, or even a tank top because you may look naked in the photo. If you live in a HOT climate, but you look AMAZING in turtlenecks (often people with long necks do), keep your turtleneck sweater in your purse to put on right before the picture. After the photo, return it to your purse. Hint: wear a tank so you don’t show up naked and won’t sweat your booty off while waiting.

Take a look at some of your photos to help decide what poses, hairstyles, and make-up flatter you the most. Ask an honest and loving friend to help, if need be. Ladies, don’t be above wearing fake eyelashes for your photo. Seriously! They make your eyes look bigger and brighter. You can get them at a drug store or beauty store. Put them on in the DMV parking lot, and take them off in your car after the photo.

Don’t go overboard on the bronzer, but feel free to dust a fresh, light layer over your face for a sun kissed glow. If you like that look, make sure it is evenly distributed in order to avoid the line of color separating your face from your neck. That line is NOT pretty from any angle.

If people always compliment you on your BIG smile (if you have pearly whites, flaunt ‘em), then flash that smile! If you look better with a serious look, then don't smile! If a subtle, innocent, closed mouth smile is your best look, go for it!

Bottom line: you don’t want to be disgusted looking at a bad picture for years. At the end of the day, it is not life threatening if your photo turns out sub par. The only people that look at it are bartenders, security, law enforcement, etc. Really all they are looking at are the legality of the license and your DOB. Plus, do you really care what THEY think of your driver's license picture?
