Cince de Mayo, aka May 5th. The holiday celebrates the victorious battle of Mexican forces over the French in the Battle of Pueblo. This is NOT Mexico’s Independence Day. That is September 16th.
Three things one must remember when attending a Cinco de Mayo party: wear bright colors, make sure there is a Mexican beer or margarita in your hands at all times, but PLEASE leave the sombrero in your closet.
Springtime weather is always unpredictable, so be sure to check the weather forecast before planning your outfit. In the southwestern part of the USA, it is typically warm during the day (mid 80’s to low 90’s) and cooler at night. If your party is outside and during the day, it is wise to wear something casual that will keep you cool. I would suggest a casual, brightly colored sundress for the ladies. Don’t wear your finest sundress because, once people get several margaritas in them, they are bound to spill!
Temperatures can cool at nigh,t so be sure to put a pashmina or sweater of some sort in your purse or car.
PLEASE do not forget a designated driver or taxi number! Remember, even though this is a day in which mass amounts of alcohol is often consumed.... it's NEVER OK to be a drooling, drunken idiot. Annoying!
